Organized by the Al Mada Foundation in partnership with the Chraïbi Abderrazik Foundation, this workshop-exhibition showcases prints produced over the last 50 years by the Marsam art studio, as well as a collection of engravings in tribute to the great Moroccan artist and master engraver, Aziz Abou Ali. The exhibition, which runs until April 30, is accompanied by interactive workshops in lithography, serigraphy and engraving. "Rachid Chraïbi, co-founder of the Marsam Contemporary Art Gallery, explains: "The Musée de l'Estampe workshop is an opportunity to showcase our work and our experience in art publishing over the last fifty years. He added, in a statement to MAP, that Marsam has produced no fewer than 400 works by Morocco's leading painters, in the various techniques of this art form. After explaining the difference between the arts of lithography, serigraphy and engraving, Mr Chraïbi announced that the Marsam workshop, through the Chraïbi Abderrazik Foundation, aims to create a print museum in Casablanca, the first of its kind in Morocco. "This museum project will bring together the entire graphic production of Marsam, as well as a major collection by the great master engraver Aziz Abu Ali", he said, adding that the Marsam gallery also aims to create a printmaking school. "The Musée de l'Estampe workshop is both an exhibition of works by a number of artists and a series of workshops introducing visitors to the traditional printmaking process," said Nabil Bahia, head of the cultural department at the Al Mada Foundation. "This artistic event will also be marked by the organization of masterclasses and courses for students at the Casablanca School of Fine Arts, enabling them to discover the craft of master printer, in addition to discovery and initiation workshops open to the general public", said Mr Bahia, in a statement to MAP. By "estompe" we mean the reproduction on paper of a work painted using the silkscreen, lithography or engraving process. They are produced by a master specialist using traditional techniques, under the artist's supervision, and printed by hand on art paper," reads a catalogue made available to visitors to the Atelier. Unique and versatile, prints democratize access to works of art and extend their reach. 50 years ago, Rachid Chraïbi and Zineb Abderrazik founded Marsam, a contemporary art gallery and Morocco's first print workshop. Working with renowned visual artists, the studio has produced fine art serigraphs, engravings and lithographs. Produced in limited editions, signed and numbered, these prints make it possible to move from the creation of unique works to the production of shared original works. Mapnews.ma
